Times of Trial.  It is a basic truth that all believers have gone through, are going through, or will go through trials.  They are a necessary part of the Christian walk.  Jesus was tried in the wilderness for forty days and He said that "it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher..." (Mat 10:25).  If Jesus was tried, we can expect the same.  It's important for the believer to understand that trials are not haphazard events in our lives.  The Apostle Peter said that we are "grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of [our] faith...may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Pet 1:6-7).  Knowing this, we can "count it all joy...when [we] meet trials of various kinds [knowing] that the testing of [our] faith produces steadfastness" (Jam 1:2-3).  While the natural man wants to complain about his trial, Jesus shows us by example how we should endure them.  We must be led by the Spirit; we must deny the self; and we must speak the Word.  The next time you're going through a trial, do these things and remember that "the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials..." (2 Pet 2:9)
